Harrison Festival Marred by Tragedy

27-year-old man charged with drugged driving

n July 7, 2013 at approximately 1:20 p.m.,  Agassiz RCMP  attended to a motor vehicle and pedestrian collision at the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and Hot Springs Road.

 

A vehicle, driven by a 27-year-old man, hit another vehicle from behind that was turning left onto Esplanade Road from Hot Springs Road then continued across Esplanade Road onto the sidewalk striking a family.  The Abbotsford family, including, 37-year-old mother, 51-year-old father and 13-year-old son were struck by the vehicle while their 16-year-old son managed to jump out of the way.

 

All three were transported to a hospital by BC Ambulance and were treated for non threatening injuries. “With several hundred people reported to be in the area, we are thankful that the family survived and no one else was injured or killed,” says Constable Cynthia Kershaw.

 

Witnesses contained the driver in the vehicle until Police arrived. The driver is facing charges of Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm with drugs being the suspected cause of impairment.  “Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is completely unacceptable,” says Constable Cynthia Kershaw.
