A Farewell to Funk

BIA Executive Director moves to Restorative Justice

Released by Kathy Funk for Barb Kemp, DCBIA

he Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association (BIA) announces the departure of their Executive Director Kathy Funk.

After twelve years of dedicated leadership, Kathy is moving on to Chilliwack Restorative Justice and Youth Advocacy.

“Kathy has accomplished many things for our organization over the years and she can be proud of her legacy said Barb Kemp, President of the BIA, in a release Tuesday. "With Kathy’s leadership, the BIA has seen a decrease in crime downtown due to the implementation of 24/7 security program, clean streets by adding an additional street cleaner/ambassador and recycling receptacles."

Kemp says the Health Contact Centre concept was originally introduced by the BIA and Funk, who has been passionate about the project, is pleased to see it coming to fruition.

"Introduction of new business orientation and profiles was another one of Funk’s initiatives," said Kemp. Funk brought a lot to the table in terms of event management skills culminating in the creation of the award-winning Party in the Park, which brings thousands of people out.

Funk's departure leaves a gap that the BIA will need to fill.

"Moving forward, we will be searching for the best fit for our society," said Kemp. "While we will miss Kathy’s enthusiasm and energy, the staff and board of director’s want to wish her well in her new role as Executive Director for Chilliwack Restorative Justice."
