parks shot up a white column of smoke and flames could be seen for blocks in all directions Wednesday night at around 10:30 P.M., when a row of 20' cedar shrubs alongside a parking lot in the 45000 block of Henderson somehow caught fire.

Firefighters were quick to respond, and had the blaze knocked down within minutes.

When crews arrived on the scene, they found the neighbour with a garden hose trying to keep the flames from spreading to his home.

Jeff Ullyot, City of Chilliwack Fire Dept Assistant Fire Chief told the Voice in en e-mail Thursday they don't believe the fire was intentionally set. He said 11 hedges were consumed.

"There was damage to neighbouring fences, and to a shed which is minor of nature," he said.
