City Reacts Swiftly to E. coli Threat

Standby chlorination system kicks in

Staff/Voice photos

he City of Chilliwack has issued a Water Quality Advisory for residents in Greendale. Water sampling in this area resulted in a positive test for E. coli today, in one isolated location in Greendale. It was a Count One result, which is the lowest level detectable.

The City has activated its standby chlorination system and is flushing the pipes in the area. The chlorine will take approximately 12 hours to reach the area. Once the chlorine is present, residents are advised to run the water in their pipes to flush the chlorinated water through the system.

The City and Fraser Health Authority are re-sampling to confirm results, which should be available by Thursday, February 28. We will be working with FHA to determine if a Boil Water Advisory is warranted.
