A Deeper Meaning of Christmas
Celebrating the season with
a little love, peace and harmony no matter what faith

hristmas
shopping, Christmas presents, Christmas baking....the list can go on
forever! December doesn't just belong to those of Christian faith
yet everywhere we look the name of Christ is slapped on on
everything. Pretty ironic seeing as Christ's Birthday is in May, but
the holiness of this time of year stems from long before a little
boy was born in a manger.
Many religions hold this time of year as special and celebrate their
holy days with great joy and happiness, each one tailored to the
culture it stems from. The lighting of candles is an important and
traditional aspect of Christmas, Kwanza, Hanukah, Yule, and Diwali.
This may be for a variety of reasons but they all celebrate the
light. Ramadan encourages the deeper appreciated of the basics we
take for granted on a daily basis by abstaining from them for a
short time.
Although each celebration is different they are similar in ways too.
All religions have some sound advice to offer others, and stories to
share. They show us how to be good people and give us hope for the
future. We are not really so different after all. So, regardless of
who you are and what path you follow, we all have a reason to spread
joy and peace this time of year. It's amazing what a little bit of
respect and open-mindedness can do.
