Amethyst Bookstore owner Janet Newport enjoys a cup of tea with customers and staff Saturday during the open house.
On Saturday, easy-going store owner Janet Newport threw open the doors to her Young Rd. retail outlet offering customers a 30 per cent discount on many items. "It’s been a really great day and all the friends of Amethyst Bookstore came in to take advantage of the beautiful crystals and the jewelry and to say ‘hi’ and to share in their ideas," Newport told the Voice. "Everyone's enjoying just being together."
In the back, Jess Smith offered Angel and Oracle card readings. In the front, tables were loaded with unique and interesting items from Tibetan jewelry and singing bowls to crystals and beautiful stone pendants. The selection of new and used books featuring topics such as metaphysics, spirituality, Wicca and Zen is unmatched in the Fraser Valley and there is a wonderful selection of Inner Alchemy CDs. There’s something for everyone with a large variety of scents, including oils, incense and smudge, candles, cards, journals, Seeds of Light Jewelry, wind chimes, tarot cards and even pendulums are for sale.
If there’s a special out-of-print book that you’ve been looking for and can’t find, chances are that Newport can bring it in for a small finder's fee of $5.00 If you’ve never been to the store, you’re missing out on something very special. Additionally, there is a display next to the front door chock-a-block with brochures, papers and business cards providing folks the opportunity to network.
Free parking is available off the alley behind the store which is located in mid-town Chilliwack at 8989 Young Road between Alexander and Chesterfield. Store hours are from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
