Garrison Crossing Home Burns

Firefighter injured in blaze that guts one townhouse, damages two others

t approximately 5:00 pm, firefighters from fire halls 1, 4 and 6 responded to a structure fire in the 45000 block of Tamihi Way.

 

Upon arrival, fire crews found a large amount of fire and smoke venting from the roof of a 2-storey townhouse unit, with fire starting to spread to the adjoining 4 units.

Crews managed to slow the fires progress but not before there was considerable fire, smoke and water damage to 3 of the 4 units.

One firefighter was slightly injured when debris fell on her neck and back.

There were no occupants at home when the fire started. Emergency Social Services attended and assisted with emergency accommodations and food for a several adults and children.
 

Foam used to put out the fire washes down into the street out front of the home.


A number of lizards survived the incident and firefighters continued to look for a number of cats.

The Salvation Army attended to provide food for the firefighters.

Cause of the fire is considered accidental and is under investigation by Chilliwack's fire investigators.
