Crossing Collision Claims Life
Car slams into moving train
People huddle near the stop sign as emergency crews respond to a crossing accident at Prest Rd. and First Ave. Below, the crossing as it looked the following day.
n MVI involving a CN train took the life of one person Monday after the vehicle they were traveling in hit a passing train at Prest Rd. and First Ave.
Sources say the car was stopped on the north side of the crossing guard just after 9 p.m., when it suddenly lurched forward into the side of the moving train.
Emergency responders managed to get the train stopped at Lickman Rd. and the main line closed.
The victim's gender, nor any other information is known at this point.
Chilliwack RCMP Cpl. Len vanNieuwenhuizen told the Voice the case has been handed over to the BC Coroners Office and that they could not comment on what took place.
All roads in the area were closed and flaggers re-routed traffic. Victims Services was brought in and Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Service (ICARS) pieced together what happened.
Investigators will have access to the train's video and black box which will indicate speed and other information.
There were no reports the crossing guard wasn't working.
More details as they emerge later.
