Basement Blaze Leaves House Uninhabitable

Tenants escape unharmed, in care of Emergency Services

n April 16, 2017, at approximately 2:06pm the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire located in the 9400-block of Carleton.  Occupants were alerted by the smell of smoke and by the basement tenant. They safely evacuated and called 9-1-1.

 

Firefighters responded from Halls 1 and 4 and on-arrival, reported seeing smoke and flames showing from a basement window of the single-storey residential home. Fire crews setup a defensive attack, quickly contained it and then extinguished the fire.

 

The home suffered some fire damage to the basement as well as light smoke damage throughout.

 

The occupants are now in the care of Emergency Social Services. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

 

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Fire Department officials and the RCMP.
