The driver of the vehicle did not approach the youths but circled back on Watson Road after driving past and seeing them. One of the youths advised his mother of the incident who then phoned police. The vehicle matches the description of a vehicle that was involved in a similar incident that took place at the end of January in the Tyson Rd/Watson Rd. In this incident, a teenage girl was approached and asked to get into the vehicle.
The vehicle is described as an older model white Volkswagon Jetta. In both instances, the driver was alone and described as being between the age of 25 and 30, East Indian male, wearing a green turban.
The Chilliwack RCMP are asking parents to spend some time with their children reiterating safety precautions. “It’s always a concern when we have complaints of this nature involving children and youth,” said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck. “The best thing for parents to do is to remind their kids never to approach a vehicle that they are not familiar with, don’t speak to anyone that they do not know and to immediately let an adult know if they are approached."
Police are seeking the public’s assistance in furthering their investigation and are asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604 792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS if they have any information.

Hope, BC- On Tuesday February 16, 2010 at approximately 2:00 AM, Hope RCMP were called to assist Search and Rescue in locating an injured snowmobiler in the Coquihalla Lakes area. The snowmobiler was rescued and sustained broken ribs and a collapsed lung.
Two males, both of Maple Ridge, BC had been snowmobiling in the Britton Creek area and under the influence of alcohol. One male became injured and the other was able to ride for help. The Hope Search and Rescue established a command post and were able to locate the injured male. The injured male was taken to Fraser Canyon Hospital where he was treated and released.
No charges were laid in this incident but the potential was there. “Snowmobiling in the best conditions is dangerous enough but adding alcohol to the equation is a recipe for disaster,”said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck. “Most people don’t realize that operating a snowmobile while under the influence of alcohol or drugs can result in an impaired driving charge.”
The RCMP urge anyone who is operating recreational vehicles to do so
responsibly. “There isn’t just a risk to the injured party’s life but to the
lives of everyone involved in a search for that person,” said Cst Tracy
Wolbeck.

The police were able to determine that the call came from the Cultus Lake area and dispatched officers to make patrols.
While police were investigating the dropped 911 call a female victim attended the Chilliwack Hospital advising she had been sexually assaulted and was the female who had placed the 911 call. The female, age 19 of Chilliwack, advised that she was a local sex trade worker who had been picked up downtown and taken to a location and violently assaulted.
The suspect male who had picked up the female drove her to a remote area in Cultus with the intention of having sex. Based on the willingness of the victim to come forward, and the information she was able to provide the police were able to identify and apprehend the suspect believed responsible. Investigators from the Chilliwack RCMP located the scene of the attack and have also seized a vehicle where the assault is believed to have taken place.
The suspect, Brian Arthur RACHER age 31 of Chilliwack, was arrested without incident by police on February 2nd at a residence in the 9400 block of College Street in Chilliwack. Chilliwack BC: On Tuesday February 2nd, 2010 at approximately 11:17 a.m. the Chilliwack RCMP received a call from an off duty police officer of a male suspect who had attempted to assault her while running on the Rotary Vedder River Trail in Chilliwack BC. At 11:20 a.m. the Chilliwack RCMP received a second call from the off duty female officer advising that she had arrested the male suspect and was holding him awaiting the assistance of on duty officers.
The off duty officer first saw the male at the beginning of her run near the one kilometre mark of the trail as she continued on her run. While running back to her vehicle which was parked nearest Vedder Road the male suspect confronted the off duty officer and tried to run her off the trail and towards a wooded area. The female officer began to run from the male and he gave chase. At one point the male ran in front of the female officer and began to disrobe by taking off his jacket and a sweater that he had been wearing while trying to trap the female officer. The officer identified herself to the male as an off duty officer and tried to make him leave her alone but he continued to try and contain her. The female officer was eventually able to out run the male suspect and get to her vehicle to place a call to the Chilliwack RCMP.
On duty members of the Chilliwack RCMP were en-route when a second call was made by the female officer advising that the male had been arrested and that she was holding him with the assistance of a near by fisherman awaiting the arrival of on duty officers.
The female officer was able to take the male to the ground and sat on top of him at which point the fisherman came to assist in holding the male.
The male suspect, age 55 of Chilliwack BC, has been held in custody to face recommended charges of Sexual Assault and Assaulting a Peace Officer.
"In this instance the female officer did exactly what she should have in defending herself and calling for assistance" said Cpl. Lea-Anne Dunlop. "Thankfully she was not hurt and was able to not only protect herself but also apprehend the male suspect".
The investigation is ongoing at this time by the Chilliwack RCMP. Anyone that may have witnessed this incident who has not yet spoken to police is ask to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611.

RCMP Remind Drivers That The Cell Phone Ban Begins February 1st.
The Upper Fraser Valley RCMP wish to remind the public that as of
February 1st the education period for the new legislation prohibiting
the use of hand-held devices will end and enforcement will begin. There
is still time to equip your vehicle with hands free technology and do
your part to help make our roads safer.
As of January 1st, 2010 the new BC laws states that drivers cannot:
- send or read text messages or e-mails
- make or receive calls unless using hands-free device
- hold or operate any electronic device
- operate hand-held OR hands-free cell phones if a learner or novice
driver (in GLP)
“Using” an electronic device includes:
- holding the device in your hand
- operating one of its functions (i.e. press buttons)
- talking on the device
- watching the device
(only required to be doing one of these actions to commit an offence)
What is an “electronic device” ?
- cell phones, Blackberry, and other hand-held devices that have
telephone capabilities and on which you can send text messages or
emails
- Ipods and other music players
- GPS systems
- hand microphones
- televisions
- other handheld electronic devices
What are the fines?
For graduated license holders (learners and novice), who cannot use any
electronic device within the meaning of the legislation including
hands-free...
$ 167 Fine and 3 penalty points
All other drivers, for use of an electronic device that is not allowed
by legislation but that does not involve texting or emailing, like
talking on a cell phone...
$ 167 Fine and no penalty points
For using an electronic device to communicate with another person or
another device by email or other text based message, or by dialing...
$ 167 Fine and 3 penalty points
"Most hands free devices are cheaper than the corresponding $167 dollar
fine amount associated and you still have time to shop" said Cpl
Lea-Anne Dunlop. "The cost to help make our roads safe is much less than
the tragic cost and losses that could follow for those that continue to
ignore the new legislation".
If you do not wish to equip your vehicle with a new hands free device
the remaining option is simple; put down your phone. Even with the use
of hands free devices there is some level of distraction involved. It is
always best to wait until you are no longer behind the wheel or safely
parked.

Chilliwack, BC.- On Tuesday January 19th, 2010 at approximately 3:56 AM, the Chilliwack RCMP responded to a call of glass breaking and a car alarm sounding in the 46000 block of Margaret Avenue. As police arrived, several other calls were received regarding vehicles in the area being broken into.
Police located two witnesses who provided a description of a man running down the street carrying a crow bar. The Lower Mainland District Police Dog Service unit was called and located the suspect. The suspect was arrested without incident and taken into police custody.
“This is a very good example of the coordinated effort that goes into successfully apprehending a suspect of this nature" said Cst Tracy Wolbeck. "We received a call from a concerned member of the public and were able to respond quickly and identify witnesses. The witnesses were then able to supply police with an accurate description and direction of travel that the police dog service was able to use in apprehending the individual”.
The vehicles were being targeted for the loose change that was visible through the vehicle windows. Seven vehicles were either broken into or damaged causing great cost to the owners for repair. “We always caution people against leaving anything of value visible in their vehicles. You may not consider loose change to be valuable but with 6 or 7 vehicles broken into, the value grows significantly for a criminal”, said Cst Wolbeck.
The suspect, age 29 of Langley BC, has been released on a Promise to Appear in court again on April 23rd, 2010.

Year
and a half old Golden Retriever named ANGEL saves 11 year old boy in
back yard. 5 year RCMP officer Cst Chad Gravelle shoots cougar and saves
boy and dog
This occurred at 5:40 pm Jan 2 2010 in 'downtown' Boston Bar, Trans Canada Highway.
The family dog stepped between an advancing cougar and a 11-yr old boy in their backyard. The dog took the brunt of the attack. Police arrived within minutes while it continued it's attack on the dog.
The 11year old named Austin was in the back yard of the family home gathering firewood when he encountered a cougar. The big cat charged across the yard, closing the distance toward the boy and his golden retriever.
His
dog stepped between the cougar and the boy and engaged the cougar before
it could reach him and fought a battle with the larger animal.
A call was made to the Boston Bar RCMP and a local Boston Bar RCMP officer who was close by, was on scene within one minute of being dispatched.
He located the cougar under the back porch hearing the dog cry out as the cat chewed on his neck. From a distance our officer fired two rounds into the cougar's rear end which was the only part of the cat that was visible.
The cougar continued it's attack so the Cst closed to within 5 feet, took careful aim and shot the animal twice more killing it instantly.
The retriever survived the attack with minor injuries and thankfully the boy was unhurt.

On Sunday December 27, 2009 at 1:00pm the Cpl. was released from the hospital and is returning home with family. He will be monitored closely and likely be off duty for a period of time.
On behalf of Burnaby Detachment and the Lower Mainland District RCMP thank-you to all media and the public at large for your thoughts, prayers and continued concern. As well thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Vancouver General Hospital for the outstanding medical care given to our officer
The criminal investigation continues.
The Burnaby Cpl injured on December 25, 2009 remains in a local area hospital. His immediate family and others have been attending since the incident.
The Cpl is in good spirits. He has no broken bones and has full movement in his legs. He continues to be examined and monitored regarding a head injury.
On December 25, 2009 at 7:30pm a female committed an armed robbery at a ESSO gas bar in the Chilliwack area at Hwy #1 and Hwy #9. A long barreled weapon was reported in the robbery and a good vehicle description was given.
A Chilliwack officer spotted the vehicle on Hwy #1 westbound at Young Road and followed it until Vedder Road when the officer activated emergency equipment in a vehicle stop attempt. The vehicle did not pull over and the officer pursued the vehicle until Yale Rd when in the interest of public and officer safety the pursuit was terminated.
A short time later, an unmarked Abbotsford Police Department vehicle spotted the suspect vehicle still westbound on Hwy #1 at Whatcom Rd and began to monitor the vehicle. The officer was not engaged in a pursuit. The suspect vehicle was driving at normal highway speeds.
Surrey RCMP assisted and entered onto Hwy #1 and 176 St. to observe and assist if a vehicle stop was attempted.
Lower Mainland District Police Dog Service operating an unmarked vehicle entered Hwy #1 at Brunette Ave and observed the suspect vehicle ahead. Burnaby RCMP officers attended to Hwy exit ramps, Kensington and Willingdon and entered Hwy #1 at that point. Suspect was still being monitored covertly and no pursuit had been initiated to this point.
Vancouver Police Department officers set a road block at Hwy #1 and the First Ave exit. All civilian traffic was slowing down in the area and heavy congestion was present.
The suspect vehicle stopped in traffic on the roadway with the rest of the Hwy traffic. The marked RCMP police vehicle activated emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct a vehicle stop with the suspect. When the motorists on the Hwy observed the emergency lights behind they all pulled out of the way and parted. The suspect was now unobstructed in front, found large openings on the roadway and began to drive away.
An Burnaby RCMP officer deployed a spike belt, catching two tires. The suspect pull to the right and appeared to be slowing to a stop. The front left tire was flat. The suspect vehicle veered to the left and rammed a marked Burnaby RCMP police car that was blocking a westbound lane on Hwy #1. The police car was only partially blocking the freeway and had allowed an escape area and an open lane.
The suspect drove straight at the police car and struck a Burnaby Cpl. and his vehicle on the drivers door. After striking the police car the suspect vehicle continued for a few meters and stopped. As a follow up to yesterday's media coverage of the Pit Bull attack on a police service dog, it is important that a number of facts be made clear.
On December 22, 2009, the Lower Mainland District Police Dog Service was engaged in a training exercise in the 46000 block of Fifth Avenue in Chilliwack. During this exercise, two uniformed police officers, one RCMP officer and one Abbotsford PD officer with a police service dog traveled through the yard of a private residential property.
While tracking through the property, a Pit Bull from a neighboring property attacked the police service dog. The police service dog was on a leash and under control of a police officer. The Pit Bull ran out from its yard to the adjacent property and grabbed the police service dog by the throat. Attempts were made by the two police officers to pry the Pit Bull's jaws from the neck of the police dog without success. The police service dog was in danger of losing its life and as a result, the Pit Bull was shot once by police.
Dog owners must ensure that their dogs are not running loose and must have their dogs under control at all times. While this was a training exercise yesterday, this attack could just as easily have occurred if the police dog was in pursuit of a suspect who had just committed a crime. Equally, it could have occurred to a private citizen's dog being walked.
Furthermore, the Lower Mainland Police Dog Service urban training exercises have been suspended in order that a complete review can take place of all training protocols. A review of the Use of Force options used in this case will take place as well.
The RCMP deeply regrets that this incident occurred.
Chilliwack BC: The Chilliwack RCMP wish to advise the public that we have seen a rise in break and enters over the last number of weeks. We need the help of the community to help prevent break-ins, and to help in catching those responsible by reporting all suspicious activity that could be related right away.
Many people will be leaving this weekend to go visit loved ones over the holidays, but before they do it is important to take some preventative steps to help curb property crime.
Some will be home over the holidays, but with Christmas also comes the knowledge of local thieves that many new items have just arrived in your home.
Property Crime is a crime of opportunity, anything that can be done to reduce the opportunity will help reduce crime in our community. Here are a few tips to help:
-Have a neighbour park a vehicle in your driveway, even during the day
time hours if possible.
- Have someone pick up your mail and papers, or put a hold on your delivery
until you will be home again.
- Clean out your garage so you can store all of your valuables inside.
- Keep your garage closed and locked at all times.
- Store all of your valuable inside, not outside on trailers.
- Install your house numbers on the front and rear of your house and ensure
they are large, visible, and well lit at night.
- Use a timer system for lights, and keep some lights on while you are away.
- Use motion lights outside, and advise your neighbours that you will be
away.
- Trim trees and shrubs so doors and windows are visible to neighbours from
the street.
- Don’t leave your empty garbage bins out while you are away. Have someone
take them in after your local pick up has occurred.
- Don’t throw out boxes from large electronic purchases, break them down
into small bundles and stagger them over a period of time in your recycling.
- Lock your doors and windows even when you are home or working outside.
- Install good quality dead bolts, a minimum 2.5 cm (1 inch throw). Add door
reinforcements that fit around the dead bolt to add 2-3 times the strength
to the door.
"One key to all of these preventative tips is neighbourhoods working together to help prevent theft and break-ins" Said Cpl. Lea-Anne Dunlop. "We all need to look out for each other. Police will be out patrolling over the holidays, and we need your eyes to help as well".
If you see any suspicious activity that could be related to a break-in or other property crime please call police right away. If you have information about who is responsible for some of the break-ins in our community please pass it on to the police, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. A Crime Stoppers reward of up to $2000 could be offered for information that leads to the identification and arrest of a suspect. Crime Stoppers Tips can also be provided on-line at www.chilliwackcrimestoppers.ca

Chilliwack BC: On Tuesday December 22nd, 2009 at approximately 11:30 a.m. Lower Mainland Police Dog Services were conducting a training exercise in the 46000 block of Fifth Avenue in Chilliwack BC when the police dog encountered a civilian dog. The police dog was attacked by a Pitbull and attempts by the police officers on scene to separate the dogs failed.
The police dog handler and the police dog were on a neighbouring property when the Pitbull crossed his unfenced yard onto the adjacent property and bit the police dog on his throat.
As a result of being unable to separate the two dogs and in an effort to get the Pitbull to release the police dog, which was suffocating and in danger of losing it’s life, a member of the Chilliwack RCMP discharged his service pistol hitting and killing the civilian dog.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time and will focus on the police use of force in this incident, and if that use of force was lawful and within RCMP policy.
Victim Services were called to the scene to provide support to the dogs owner. The police dog has sustained injury to his throat and bruising and is being monitored at this time.

Chilliwack BC: On Friday December 18th, 2009 the Chilliwack RCMP, Chilliwack Fire Department, and Emergency Health Service attended the scene of a single vehicle collision on Chilliwack Mountain Road near Lickman Road.
The vehicle had left the roadway going off road left into a ditch and had flipped before coming to a rest. The occupants of the vehicle, a male age 84 and a female age 82 of Chilliwack, were trapped upside down in the vehicle which was partially submerged in water.
A witness reported the vehicle after having spotted it while driving by but was unsure if anyone was inside. A number of people stopped at the scene and could hear people inside the vehicle.
The police were called at 11:12 a.m. and by 11:17 a.m. the first officer
arrived on scene to find the couple trapped. One officer climbed down into
the ditch so he would be able to talk with the couple who were conscious,
ensuring them that help was on the way. Fire crews arrived a short time
later and were able to extract the couple from the vehicle.
Both occupants received minor injuries and were taken to hospital to be
checked for hypothermia due to the unknown amount of time they were
partially submerged in water. They are expected to be okay and the
Chilliwack RCMP wish to thank those who stopped to help. It appears at this
time that driver fatigue may have been a contributing factor. No charges are
expected to be laid.

Police have received a number of reports of similar theft over the past few weeks and more than 40 plaques are still outstanding.

Chilliwack BC: On Saturday December 12th, 2009 at approximately 2:15 a.m. the Chilliwack RCMP received a call to attend the Echo Room night club located at 9282 Main Street, in Chilliwack. A male had been in a fight inside the bar and was removed by bouncers. The male made threatening comments towards the bouncers as he was being removed and then went to a vehicle and was believed to have taken out a firearm, and was seen waving it around in the parking lot area.
Police responded and located the male suspect. The male dropped a knife that was in his possession when he was approached by police and was taken into police custody without incident. No firearm was located with the suspect when he was arrested, and it was believed that it may have been placed back into a vehicle prior to police attendance.
Based on the information gathered by police a search warrant was to sought for both the suspects vehicle, and residence. On Saturday December 12th, 2009 the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime Unit executed search warrants on the vehicle and residence associated to the male suspect and located the following:
Search of the vehicle which had been towed by police from outside the Echo Room yielded a loaded .45 caliber handgun, a large knife (approx 1.5 feet in length), and 6 grams of marijuana.
Search of a residence in the 9400 block of Coote Street lead to the seizure of a shotgun, various ammunition, and 43 grams of Marijuana.
This incident posed a great threat to public safety. The Chilliwack RCMP took this incident very seriously from the time of the original call and gathered sufficient evidence to execute two search warrants taking two firearm and various other items off the streets. The bouncers did a good job protecting their patrons, and the many witnesses that came forward helped the police in their investigation, and ultimately helped ensure the safety of the Chilliwack community.
“This should stand as a reminder that this type of violent and
threatening behaviour will not be tolerated in our community” said Cpl.
Lea-Anne Dunlop. “The Bar Watch partnership with police has
helped prevent many similar incidents, and this is an example where a true
community team effort helped to bring the suspect responsible into custody,
and to keep our community safe.” This is an example where one person posed a
threat to our community, and the community responded to ensure that the
suspect was apprehended and no further harm could be done.
The male suspect, age 33 of Chilliwack, remains in custody and will appear in court today to face multiple charges including Assault, Uttering Threats, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Pointing a Firearm.

Chilliwack BC: After a two week long round the clock investigation two males have been arrested in connection to Extortion and Aggravated Assault. Their suspected actions are tied to organized crime and the drug trade, and their victims risked it all for money and were in way over their heads.
Late evening, on October 23rd, 2009 the Chilliwack RCMP received information about three males who were involved in transporting drugs, and who had been bound, beaten, and lives threatened, by then unknown suspects. The men became involved in transporting drugs out of financial motivation and when hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of drugs failed to make it to the intended destination in Eastern Canada, having been lost or stolen along the way, the three males were going to be made to pay.
One male, lets call him 'Almost John Doe', was ‘interviewed’ by the suspects about the missing drugs and failed to provide answers that satisfied them. He was severely beaten and tortured to try to induce information that did not exist by unidentified suspect males wearing masks and touting automatic weapons. 'Almost John Doe' and his two drug transport colleges of sorts were all bound, threatened, and had their cell phones taken. The cells would provide a list of contacts for future victims that would be targeted next if the three failed to pay up.
Who’s in your contact list? Mom and Dad, Home, Aunt Betty? Would you put their safety at risk for money? What would the potential harm to those closest to you be worth?
“When people get involved in the drug trade money is often the motivation” said Cpl Lea-Anne Dunlop. “In this case the price to pay went well beyond money and put three males, and their family and friends, all in harms way”.
“As the police we feel strongly that this story needed to be shared. Right now there is someone out there considering getting involved in the drug trade” said Cpl Lea-Anne Dunlop. “If this does not make them think twice I am not sure what will. I can assure you those involved in this incident did not think about an outcome that would lead to such fear and harm. I can also assure you that when you get involved with drugs and organized crime this outcome is always as a possibility”.
Over the two week long police investigation over 60 officers were involved to bring two males into custody. On November 6th, 2009 the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime Unit, assisted by Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU), Integrated Gang Task Force, Vancouver Drug Section, and the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team arrested two male suspects (age 28 of Delta BC, and age 29 of Langley BC) after gathering a substantial amount of evidence. The males were arrested without incident and have been held in custody to appear in Chilliwack Provincial Court today to face charges.

Chilliwack BC: On Tuesday October 6th, 2009 at approximately 2:15 p.m. the Chilliwack RCMP received a report of an assault that had occurred in a residence in the 46300 block of Yale Road in Chilliwack. Upon attendance a male victim was located and it was learned that an assault had occurred in an attempted marijuana grow rip. A small marijuana grow was located and police obtained a search warrant and seized approximately 25 plants, along with two cross bows, and a long barrel firearm from the residence.
The male victim, age 45 of Chilliwack, received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment, and has since been released. The victim was arrested for Production of a Controlled Substance and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and has been released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
Police believe this to be a targeted incident motivated by the suspects knowledge of the marijuana in the residence. The victim called for help and the suspect fled the residence prior to taking anything. One suspect was described as a Caucasian male, approximately 5'8" in height, heavy set, with blue eyes and blond hair, who was also missing teeth in the front. The suspect was wearing blue jeans and a short sleeved red and white shirt at the time of the incident. No description was provided for the other two male suspects involved.
The three male suspects left the residence in a vehicle described as a grey or silver pickup truck, possible a Ford. The investigation is ongoing at this time and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
This incident is a reminder to the public of the dangers associated to marijuana grow operations. “Often times these types of incidents go unreported to the police” said Corporal Lea-Anne Dunlop. “Those involved in growing marijuana, or who are associated to people or residences involved in growing marijuana, should know they are putting themselves in a very risky, and potentially dangerous situation”.
If you have information on a possible grow operation in your community, or other criminal activity, please do your part and provide that information to the police.
