Local Chilliwack Conditions

Attention Steelheaders... Be sure to drop in and get registered in advance for the Wally Hall Jr. Memorial Steelhead Derby (runs Dec 1 - Mar 15). If you are planning on participating in the Wall Hall derby you'll need to get your number a day in advance of weighing a fish in. Out-of-towners can phone in with a credit card.

Chilliwack/Vedder River

Yesterday we had 7 fish brought in, and today were at 14 fish! There is almost 3 feet of vis, with a steelhead green colour, and the levels keep slowly dropping. Roe, roe sacks or prawns are a good bet, as are pink/white jigs. Talked to a fly fisherman who caught a nice wild on a glo-bug. Glo-bug's, Troutbeads, egg sucking leaches, are all good options. Be sure to check out our Facebook page for pics and up to date derby info.

Anglers who have weighed in fish have been using an assortment of baits and lures. Making roe, orange and pink jigs, gooey-bobs, light pink worms, wool, and chartreuse or red dyed prawns, all being great options. For flies, go with egg sucking leeches, glo-bugs, prawn patterns, and black/blue intruders - we have a great selection of steelhead flies

Fraser River

Steelheading on the Fraser is an option. Bar rigs are a favourite.

Cutthroat fishing has been very good. Spinners, Troutbeads and bait can be very effective. While on the fly flesh, glo bugs, small fry patters, and micro leeches are good options.

Harrison River

No recent reports from the Harrison. Pretty much shuts down to salmon etc. until the summer. However this is a great time of year to hunt bulls, cutties, rainbows, and white fish in the back channels.

Chehalis River

Still some chrome coho in the system. Also starting to get the odd steelie report. This system responds quite well to rain so with the rain we've had over the past few days and the upcoming forecast should mean some stellar days in store.

Fraser Valley Lakes

Not a lot to report for local lakes at this point. The cooler days and nights shut down insect activity. Worth checking out some of the lakes in the Sasquatch Park area however most of the Provincial day use and campgrounds are closed so access may be a challenge.

Interior Lakes

With the shorter days the lakes are heating up. Back into chironomid season with a bit of boatmen, scud, mayfly and leech thrown in for good measure..

Most interior lakes are moody so come prepared for every situation. Nothing like getting skunked on a weekend. Bring chironomids, mayflies (dries and nymphs), damsels, dragons, caddis (dries, nymphs, and pupa), ants, leeches, boatmen, and scud patterns. A good selection of beaded and non-beaded micro leeches is also essential as they can imitate leeches, scuds, damsels, juvenile dragons, and mayflies.

Other Rivers

Stave River

Steelhead should begin picking up in the next few weeks. Definitely worthwhile for whitefish and cutthroat - glo-bugs, Troutbeads, and flesh flies are good options.

Skagit River

Closed until July 1, 2012.

Norrish Creek

No word on this fishery of late.

Thompson River

Closed.
