Back In The High Life Again
The Village is open and changing lives already
Craig Hill/Voice photos
Eric Hunken's life changed forever in September when he moved into The Village pictured behind him.
e
would come home drunk and stoned to a rusty tin trailer without heat or a
kitchen, shower or laundry.
Life for Eric Hunken was a bitch. There's no other way to explain it. He was a mess and addicted to almost every substance known to man from marijuana to methamphetamines and spending all his money getting bent-out-of-shape. It was an easy escape and way to numb a life riddled with pain and self-abuse.
It was a miracle that he lived.
Then one day he made a choice and hasn't looked back since. He signed-up for Miracle Valley and somehow weaned himself off drugs and booze. And if that wasn't tough enough, he even gave up smoking.

Walk for Peace brings awareness of the toll drugs, alcohol and violence take on the community
Craig Hill/Voice photos

ver
a hundred people converged on Five Corners Saturday November 19,carrying banners and beating drums for what was to be the most powerful
statement the community of Chilliwack has made in recent years.
The rally, billed as Walk for Peace, was the fifth for organizers who say their aim is to raise awareness and send a message to the nefarious element that they’re not wanted in the community.
Drugs, alcohol and violence are a huge problem affecting almost every segment of society. The malady knows no racial boundaries or targets any one particular community.

As show time grew nearer, a pilgrimage of eager fans filled Pioneer Ave. ambling toward the music Mecca parked just up the tracks across from the Ag-Rec building.
There, the silhouette of a man holding a guitar appeared between railcars. He leaned back and twisted the tuning pegs, quietly focused, disregarding the buzz around him.
