Currie also said there is a lot of literature depicting the battle available in the libraries and that its "mind-boggling" when one starts to delve into it.
"I've got about 6 or 8 books at home – probably more than that – on actual interviews where people that I know here in Chilliwack are in these books and their actions during the war, it's really phenomenal," said Currie.
Currie is one of the younger fellows in the contingent here. He joined the army first in 1955 before joining the navy and spending eleven-years total in the forces. "I didn't go in during the war, I went in after Korea in '59" he said.
In February, Neil Currie and Don Bellamy, presented a scale model of the HMCS Chilliwack to City Hall for display in the lobby and later at the end of the year, it will find a permanent home in the museum.
On September 21, 2010, the Royal Canadian Navy's Centennial Travelling Road Show will be stopping in Chilliwack on tour from Winnipeg as part of the Navy's 100th Anniversary celebrations. The show will feature a 40-piece Maritime band on stage and also skits about life in the service from years gone by.
"It's going to be a really good show, a big stage production," said Currie.
The event takes place in the big auditorium at the Alliance Church at 8700 Young Rd. and will most likely will be a sellout, so its advisable to get your tickets early. Watch the Voice events for more information.
